Mohammad Reza Shadjarian & Ensemble Aref

Dastgah Chahargah

"The four soloists of the Aref ensemble play the santur (played by Parviz Meshkatian), the tar (played by Dariush Pirniakan), the kemantché (played by Ardeshir Kamkar), and the ney (played by Jamshid Andalibi)...
The Dastgah Chahargah presented here contains a selection of lengthy improvised sections and composed pieces. The compositions and arrangements are those of Parviz Meshkatian who is also heard as a soloist. The solo phases of the dastgah performance are improvised throughtout. But whenever all eleven musicians play at the same time, the music is composed. This is the case with the first, third and fifth movements." (information from the CD's program notes)
