Hassan Erraji

Music for the Arabian Dulcimer & Lute

On this album Hassan Erraji performs on both Arabian dulcimer (kanun) and Arabian lute (oud). All the pieces are composed by him.

"Hassan Erraji was born in the village of Tazart, near Marrakesh in southern Morocco. His passion for music began at a very early age. He used to attend every possible musical event in the area, from small parties to national festivals or seasonal celebrations ... Losing his sight at about the age of six only made his commitment to the world of sounds firmer and his imagination broader ...
Later he joined 'Le Conservatoire Municipal de Casablanca' where he imporved his oud playing techniques and studied the arab theory and practice of music, especially taqsims and maqams. In the 'Institut Royal pour Aveugles Sourds-Muets et Ambliopes' in Brussels [Belgium], Hassan studied western classical music, Braille music notation ...
Today, Hassan Erraji has established his own unique style, developing oud, kanun, and darbuka playing techniques to unprecedented heights... " (information from CD's program notes)
