Hamza El Din

Music of Nubia

"Hamza El Din was born in Wadi-Halfa, in that part of Nubia which is now in Sudan. This town, like much of the Nubian land, [was] covered by the waters of the great dam [built] at Aswan [Egypt], and the people have moved their homes ... Hamza El Din became aware of how important it was to write songs in the Nubian language, affirming the bond between art and his people." (written by S. W. Bennett, from CD's program notes)
