Marc Loopuyt Les Orients du Luth
Marc
Loopuyt is a French oud player. In this album he is accompanied by
Adel Shams El Din on percussion (darbuka, daff, tbilat and riq).
We will briefly review Marc Loopuyt. "Marc Loopuyt started by studying classical guitar, and soon after flamenco guitar. After a sojourn in Andalusia, he embarked for Morocco where he learned and practiced various forms of music, taking up just as much from the school of Berber musicians as from Abdelkrim Rais, a famous interpreter of Andalusian music from Fez, with whom he spent three years studying the art of nuba. He later worked with another great master, Ustad Massano. Then he purued his musical journey in Turkey to study the science of maqamat with Cinucen Tanrikorur, the country's most famous ud player. Also interested in the original aspects of ud, Marc Loopuyt went to listen to the musicians in the Emirates, Syria or Yemen. This long musical journey in the Orient and the Maghreb allowed him to free himself from any particular school and to create his own style. Even if such or such a region might echoe in the pieces presented here, these always represent the personal vision of an artist who is neither Moroccan nor Syrian nor Armenian nor Turkish, and who plays his own music while remaining faithful to the spirit of maqamat." (written by Henri Lecomte and Marc Loopuyt, from CD's program notes) "Les Orients du Luth" was released in 1993 by Buda Musique which is a French label.
