In the early 1960s, he emigrated to the U.S. and was warmly greeted by American audiences at the 1964 Newport Folk Festival. He has taught music at universities in the U.S. and Japan, and now residies in the San Francisco Bay area, where he continues composing, teaching, and recording during breaks in his busy worldwide concert schedule.
