Abdel Gadir Salim, Abdel Aziz El Mubarak

Sounds of Sudan

This is a compilation CD, representing the works of four musicians; Abdel Gadir Salim (vocals and oud), Azhari Abdel Gadir (accordion), El Zubeir Mohamed El Hassan (tabla), Mohamed Gubara (vocals and tambour). We will briefly review the two oudists.

"When Abdel Gadir Salim, the exceptional singer, composer and oud player was a student at the prestigious Institute of Music & Drama in Khartoum, he turned for inspiration to the music of his native Kordofan. The province of Kordofan is a desert region to the west of the country, where most of the people are nomadic cattle herders.
Abdel Aziz El Mubarak is, like Salim, an alumni of Mahi Ismail's Institute of Music & Drama. Born in 1951, he not only comes from a musical family, but from a whole village of musicians called Medani." (written by H. M. Yassin, from CD's program notes)
