We will briefly review Necdet Yasar and Munir Nurettin Beken.

"Necdet Yasar is acknowledged as the grand master of Turkish tanbur, the leading instrument of Turkish makam music ... He has performed with all of Turkey's finest makam musicians, including Niyazi Sayin and Ihsan Ozgen, with whom he formed a famous trio in the 1970's. He has toured the world as a concert performer, and was twice a resident artist in the Program in Ethnomusicology at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has often served as an unofficial cultural ambassador of Europe, America and East Asia. He is the founder and director of the Istanbul State Turkish Music Ensemble." (written by Walter Feldman, from CD's program notes)

Munir Nurettin Beken is a leading performer on the ud. He is currently teaching at the University of Maryland.
