Vedad Gencturk

L'art du ud Turc

"Vedad Gencturk was born in 1949 in Amasya, Turkey. While still a teenager, he took an active part in the musical life of this provincial city, playing the ud an instrument he taught himself. He later went to Istanbul, where he studied at the Conservatory, following the classes of the great master of Turkish art music, Emin Ongan. Although his present knowledge of the instrument is purely the result of personal research, he is nonetheless open to other styles of music because of his training at the Conservatory." (information from CD's program notes)
